This land was surveyed on 17 Feb 1809 with survey chain carriers Elijah Smith
and Hezekiah Lizenby. On 17 Feb 1809 George was a survey chain carrier for Prettyman Jones in Buffalo
Valley, Jackson Co., TN for 50 acres of land in Little Bear Valley.2
Buffalo Valley is just over a hill north of where George Smith lived on Wolf
Creek in Smith Co., TN. On 13 Jan 1826 George, entry 613, entered 200
acres of land on head waters of Wolf Creek, Smith Co., TN.3 The survey, 30 Oct
1826, of this land begin on Johnsons northeast corner in Jackson Co., TN line
and ran south with the Jackson and Smith County line 22 degrees for 188
1/4 poles. The survey chain carriers were his sons, Charles and Jonathan
Smith. He was granted this land. I believe part of this land is the
land that Kiddy Smith Carr inherited from her father, Robert Smith, and was
later purchased by Kiddy's son-in-law, Isaac S. Jones. This farm is now
owned by Frank G. Jones and is located off on Highway 141 in DeKalb Co.,
TN. On 15 Sep 1831, entry 1579, George entered 150 acres of land on
Little Hurricane Creek, Smith Co., TN as assigne of Isaac Smith.4 This
land begin near Jackson Co., TN line and included Isaac Smith's
improvement. The survey chain carriers were Isaac Smith and Epps
Foster. This 150 acres of land was later sold by George to his son,
Elijah.6 There has been incorrect information given on father of
children of George's children for many years. George on 24 Mar 1843 deeded
to Robert Smith the above 200 acres of land on Wolf Creek for Robert to maintain
his mother, Sylvy Smith, and his sister, Winney
Smith. George Smith is listed as 1817 in 1830 Smith Co., TN

years old, 1 male 15-20 years old, 2 males 10-15 years old, and one male 5-10
years old; 1 female 50-60 years old and one female 15-20 years old. The
order of households was James McDaniel, Will McGinnis, Rich Birdwit, Charles
Smith, George Smith, Andrew Smith, Ann Coley and John Holly. In 1840
George is on page 251 of DeKalb Co., TN census with his son, Elijah also
listed. George had in his household one male 60-70, 1 female 50-60, 4

Smith Co., TN 1840 census, and son, Charles Smith is on page 304 of 1840 Jackson

number 150 in District 13 1850 Jackson Co,. TN she is 75 years old and born in
NC, in her household is Winny age 36 born in TN and James age 8 born in
TN. The order of Jackson County 1850 census is Clabron Vaughn, Duncin
Grapham, Silvy Smith, Charles Smith, Gipson Belleus, Robert Smith and Joseph Y.
McKee. Besides the deed where Robert Smith and his mother, Silvey is named
family oral tradition supports children of George Smith. Isaac S. Jones,
son- in-law of Kiddy Smith Carr wrote in his daughter's, Nina Jones Moss, Bible
that Robert Smith had brothers and sisters, Ged, Jack, Tom and
Sylvia. Eddie Moss, grandson, of Sylvia Smith Pressley, stated that
Jack, Tom, Robert and Gid were brothers of Sylvia Smith Pressley on 28 Aug
1969. In old store ledger Charles Smith, George Smith Jr, Gideon Smith,
Jonathan Smith Thomas Smith, Winna Smith and Wiley B. Smith all had
accounts. On 15 Oct 1839 there was charged to Charles Smith account an
amount by brother. At the store on 15 Oct 1839 was both Gideon and
Jonathan Smith. Also on 25 Dec 1840 is note on Gideon Smith account amount
charged J. Smith and on same date on Jonathan Smith account is $1.32 1/2
merchandise per Gideon Smith. These notations on store accounts show
Smiths were brothers and with close relationship.
The
ancestors of George Smith have not been determined. On Wolf Creek and
possible brothers were Abner,
Isaac and James Smith who all were in Wolf Creek area at an early date.
Elijah Smith was survey chain carrier for George Smith's 50 acre survey in
1809.7 Elijah Smith had entry 11026 on 7 July 1813 of six acres of land in
Smith Co., TN on head wates of Woolf Creek beginning above said Smiths Spring to
include his spring and improvement.8 This land was surveyed on 15 Sep
1814. Also on same day Elijah entered, entry 11027, three acres of land
in Jackson Co., TN on Waters of Little Hurricane Creek.9 The entry called
for flat land and a spring. Later Robert Smith would have land grant
which included the six acre entry made by Elijah Smith. George Smith
and Abner Smith were survey chain carriers for Samuel Gibson on 5 Aug 1814 for
land on Wolf Creek.10 Abner Smith made a 10 acre entry on 17 Feb 1812 in
