MY TENNESSEE LAND
This section is pictures of White Oak Hill the land I own on Wolf Creek, DeKalb Co., TN.
Some of the land is land that was a land grant to George Smith, my fourth great
grandfather, in 1808. The rest is land purchased by my grandfather, John
Mitchell Jones. The land is located off of Highway 141 and the Agee Road.
You enter land from the Agee Road and proceed west on my entrance road. On
my land is may native trees such as Red and White Oak, Poplar, Ash, Eastern Red
and White Cedar, Ironwood,
Beech, and Hickory. There are also many native wildflower and besides ones
I have pictured there is Wild Blue Phlox Phlox divaricata, Blue Violets, Viola
Pennsylvania, Spring Beauty and Trout Lily. I am still discovering the
many different wildflowers. I have also planted many conifers and other plants
including wild azalea called wild honeysuckle that is native to the area.
There is large areas of moss under cedar trees and on large rocks in the area.
My plan is to leave the land as native as possible, and to assist nature in
bringing back all the wild beauty of the area. The ponds are man made but
have increased the bird and animal population. There are deer, turkeys,
and wood ducks use the ponds and have raised their young at third pond. I
have even noticed a young Bald Eagle at the third pond. Butterflies of all
kind are numerous and seem to be increasing.
Aerial photo of my land made April 1960. Wide
white road is Highway 141 and small white road
joining 141 on south side is Agee Hollow Road and
this is my north corner.
This picture shows my southern boundary which is crest of hills. Photo
