JONES FORK
DEKALB COUNTY, TENNESSEE
John Jefferson Mullican and his brother, Jeremiah C.Mullican, moved to this area
before 1850. In 1850's John Jefferson Mullican purchased two tracts of
land that total about 150 areas of land that borders Jones Fork on the east and
Indian Creek on West. When Center Hill Dam was completed and Center Hill
Lake created the farm became the last farm on the north end of Hurricane Ridge Road which is
approximately the center of the farm. The farm can be reached by traveling
north on the Hurricane Ridge Road which is on Highway 70 west of Smithville,
Tennessee. The farm is presently owned by my Uncle Joe Alfred
Mullican.

The
building in the

was built by John Jefferson Mullican as a place for the members of the Primitive
Baptist Church in the Jones Fork area to meet. Later this building with
its one room would be used as a parlor. In the southeast corner of this
building my father and mother were married. On the right of this
building was a dogtrot (hallway) and then on the dogtrot's right was a two story
log cabin. The log cabin's first floor was one room that served as kitchen,
dining room and bedroom for parents. In 1940's heating and cooking was by
fireplace on the first floor. "The second floor was also one room
that was the bedroom for the children. The cabin also
had cellar. John Jefferson Mullican built a separate room to right of
first floor that was not joined to the main cabin that was used for
cooking. This was done to prevent the main cabin catching on fire. The Mullican family continued to live here
until late 1940's when Homer Mullican purchased a farm further south on
Hurricane Ridge Road, and moved his family.
This picture
was made in 1969 shows the original barn construction. The barn was built
in 1929 by Homer R. Mullican using poplar logs from trees he cut on the
farm. Standing in the aisle is Homer, Mary, and Donna Mullican and T. Michelle and
John Mitchell Jones II.

This picture was made about 1969 facing west, and shows the ruins of the
original cabin on the left that was built by John Jefferson Mullican. The
loft which was the bed room for children is gone as is the dogtrot in the
middle. The room on right is the room built by John Jefferson Mullican for
Baptist Church to meet in. This is the same room shown in picture number
one.
