Cassander ALLISON m2nd Nancy Byrd. Family tradition has been that Patrick’s
wife was Nancy Byrd and he did name a son, Thomas Byrd Florida. The family of
Rutha Florida Bond states that her mother was born in Ireland, and she died and
Patrick married a Byrd. Byrd is family tradition in family of Thomas B. Florida.
Patrick is in 1800 Burke Co., NC census as Pattrick Floridy.1 He was in
Wilson Co., TN on 1 Jan 1813 when he purchased 84 acres of land on Fall Creek
from Arthur Harris.2 He purchased 41 acres of land on Fall Creek on 3
June 1833 from William Jones.3 On 1 Nov 1837 he purchased 53 acres of
land on Fall Creek from Vincent Lester.4 He deeded to Thomas B. Florida
147 acres of land on Fall Creek for $900.00 on 1 Feb 1848.5 Patrick on 28
Feb 1848 deed to Malinda Allison 40 acres of land on Fall Creek.6 He
deeded to Thomas B. Floriday 41 acres of land on Fall Creek on 29 Apr 1849.7
Then on 14 Feb 1853 Patrick deeded to Malinda Allison land during her life and
then to descend to her bodily heirs.8 He is listed on 1820,4 1830,5
18406 census of Wilson Co., TN and also in 18507 in 17th
District. Family tradition is that he lived two miles north of Cainsville. In
that location is Florida Cemetery and Florida Branch. Children of Patrick B.

widow of Hiram Alsup son of John Alsup and Elizabeth Hill. James Patrick and
Mourning were divorced and James P. married 3rd 8 Nov 1860 Wilson
Co., TN Jane Craddock. James Patrick Florida on 4 Aug 1853 deeded his interest
in the estate of his father, Patrick Florida, to Thomas B. Florida.9 In
May 1840 James was charged with drunkenness in Wilson Co., TN Court .10 Then
on 22 May 1854 he was charged with assault and battery in Wilson County.11 On
22 May 1856 Sarah Alsup and Mourning Florida were indicted for assault and
battery in Wilson County, and on 19 Sept 1856 Mourning paid the costs in the
case.12 James served
in the Mexican War as a Private in Company B 1st
Tennessee Cavalry from 8 June 1846 to 10 June 1847. During Mexican War his unit
marched from Nashville, TN to Rio Grande River to Tampico, Mexico and then to
Vera Cruz, Mexico. He served during the Civil War in the Confederate Army. He
enlisted as private on 20 May 1861 in Company F 7th Tennessee
Infantry Volunteers. He was elected 4th Corporal on 26 April 1862 and
was discharged in Richmond, VA on 29 July 1862 because of abcess of his left
hand. At the time of the discharge his company commander was Asa (Asaph) Hill a
relative of Mourning Alsup. His discharge states he was 48 years of age and was
born in Wilson Co., TN. He was five feet ten inches high, fair complexion, blue
eyes, dark hair, and when he enlisted he was a farmer. Later he joined Allison’s
Cavalry Squadron of Confederate Army as a Sgt in Company A. The 1860 census of
DeKalb Co., TN shows James P. Florida age 47, Laborer with personal worth of
$110.00 living with his daughter, Cassandra Florida Foster, and her husband,
Andrew J. Foster in District 16. Also in the household was James’ daughterm
Mary E., age 17. Family oral tradition is that James was killed at election when
he was hit in head by scale weight by Republican. Children of James Patrick
